BSA Motorcycles has unveiled new-generation Gold Star at the Motorcycle Live in NEC Birmingham. Being the company's first new model, it is expected to enter series production by mid of 2022 in England. BSA Gold Star will directly rival the likes of Royal Enfield 650, Kawasaki W800 and Triumph Street Twin. Classic Legends, the parent company, was established nearly five years back to revive the iconic brands like Jawa, Yezdi and BSA. As everyone is evident, Jawa is back to life and the next on the plate are BSA and Yezdi.

Speaking of BSA Gold Star, it retains the round headlamp with separate tell-tale pod of its predecessor which sits under the signature twin-pod instrument console. The chromed fuel tank, borrowed from the M24 and DB34 Gold Star with an offset fuel filler cap, boasts of pinstriping and a dominating BSA Gold Star logo which is inspired by the coveted ‘Gold Star’ pin won by Wal Handley in 1937, when he lapped the Brooklands circuit at over 100mph on a BSA Empire Star. In addition, several elements like the engine cover, exhaust pipe & silencer design and rear chrome fender with the trademark stays reminds of the vintage bikes of the brand. It features individual analogue speedometer and tachometer units with LCD multi-functional display while the needles get the same reverse sweep function as the original Smiths clocks.

BSA Gold Star rides on wire-spoke alloy wheels with 18-inch front and 17-inch rear tyres. The flat seat compliments the optimised handlebar and foot peg position. The rear end is simple in nature with the original Lucas lamps recreated, albeit with modern LED technology. The Gold Star will also be available in Legacy Edition, which is inspired by the Gold Stars of the past and finished in a special ‘Silver Sheen’ colour. The other unique things about the Legacy Edition are chrome-finished fenders, mirrors and levers, polished engine covers, white beaded seat and a gloss black finish on instruments, headlight cover and foot pegs, along with chromed components across the motorcycle. The Gold Star will be available in four color options namely Insignia Red, Dawn Silver, Midnight Black and Highland Green.

Based on an all-new dual-cradle chassis with a D-Loop integrated into the design, BSA Gold Star is presented with premium Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres with a vintage tread pattern. The braking duties will be performed by a single 320mm Brembo disc at the front and 255mm Brembo disc at the rear while a Continental-sourced dual channel ABS will be offered as standard. Mechanically, BSA Gold Star is powered by a 652cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which develops top power of 45 bhp at 4000rpm and peak torque of 55 Nm at 6000rpm. The engine is linked to a 5-speed transmission. The fuel tank capacity is 12 litres while mileage is claimed 70.6 mpg (WMTC) which is around 25kmpl.
